Lamar County, Alabama Background Check
You may need to conduct a background check on someone if you are considering hiring them as a new employee, babysitter or if they are a new neighbor and will have access to your family and personal property. There are several public sites and records which can help you in this search, and determine if further research into someone’s past is necessary. The most commonly used records to conduct a background check include court records, inmate records and public offender lists.
Court Records
The Lamar County Courthouse houses the local circuit and district courts, which exercise jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases in the county. The courthouse is found at 330 First Street Northeast in Vernon, and the court offices can be reached via phone at 205-695-7193. You can approach these courts in person to request records in someone’s name, though some information regarding juveniles or other sensitive details may be redacted from public view.
The Alabama Judicial System also provides statewide records online at
http://alacourt.com/. Registered users of this site can conduct a background check via party name, and records in the database date back to 1983 or older.
Inmate Records
The Lamar County Jail is located at 1118 County Road 9 in Vernon, and can be reached via phone at 205-695-7103. You can request inmate records here in person. You may also search current inmate records online through the Alabama Department of Corrections’ site at
http://www.doc.state.al.us/inmatesearch.asp. This site also provides lists of current escapees and parole violators.
Public Offender Lists
A quick search and background check can be conducted using online an individual’s name at
http://community.dps.alabama.gov/Default.aspx. This site, a service of the Alabama Department of Public Safety, provides access to current Amber Alerts, fugitives, missing persons and sex offenders. You can search the sex offender list by zip code, city, county or individual name to determine if your person of interest is a convicted offender in the state.
