Cleveland County, Arkansas Birth Records

Cleveland County had 95 births in 2009, as seen on this table at http://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/programsServices/healthStatistics/Documents/birthdata/BULLC13.PDF.  Each of these new births warranted the creation of a new birth record. Birth records are important documents that tell others that we are legal, United States citizens. Some employers require you to have a birth record when you fill out the paperwork for your new job. Passports and visas require you to show a copy of a birth record when you apply. Whatever your reason, below is information about how to obtain certified copies of a birth record.

Requirements, Limitations & Fees

Before you order a birth record, know that only the person on the birth record, the immediate family and the designated legal representative can view the birth certificate for the first 100 years after the birth record’s creation. To prove that you are able to access this information, you’ll be asked the following questions when you order your copy: the full name of the person on the birth certificate (including maiden name), date of birth, city or town and county of birth, father’s and mother’s full names (including the mother’s maiden name), your relationship to the person on the birth record and the reason you’re requesting a birth record. Lastly, you’ll need to include the following form: http://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/programsServices/certificatesVitalRecords/Documents/vr-7_birth_certificate_application.pdf.

Obtaining a Birth Record

If you need records older than February 1st, 1914, you’ll need to utilize the CARAT system. This service keeps records and deeds from 1797 to 1950 at http://arkansashistory.arkansas.com/documenting/county_records.asp.

The fastest way to get a current birth record is online at either http://www.vitalchek.com/ or www.ExpressVitalRecords.com. For in-person or by mail requests, you may contact the Cleveland County Health Unit or the Arkansas Department of Health. All three request methods will issue the same birth record copy.

State Requests

If you have questions, contact the Arkansas Department of Health at (501) 661-2336; mail your request to 4815 W. Markham Street, Slot 44, Little Rock, AR 72205. You may fax them at (501) 661-2717.
