Jurisdictions of the Court
Superior Courts will handle civil cases including probate, estate, divorce, annulment of marriage, and disputes over title and possession to real property. These courts will hear civil cases involving claims for $10,000 or more (exclusive of interest and costs), proceedings in insolvency, actions to prevent or stop a nuisance, the legality of municipal ordinances, actions for forcible entry and detainer, and naturalization. Superior Courts will share jurisdiction with Justice Courts for civil cases involving claims for $5,001 - $10,000 (exclusive of interest and costs).

Superior Courts will handle felony criminal cases; however, preliminary hearings for felony cases sometimes occur in lower courts.

Justice Courts will hear some felony preliminary hearings, misdemeanors and criminal offenses, as well as some civil actions. The Small Claims division of this court will hear claims less than
$2,500.

Municipal Courts will hear some misdemeanor crimes and petty offenses committed in the respective city or town.

Some Native American nations will operate their own Tribal Courts as well.
