Jurisdictions of the Court
Superior Courts will hear felony criminal cases, most drug-related offenses and unlimited claim amounts in civil cases. Superior Courts will also hear appeals from some administrative agency decisions.
Courts of Chancery will hear commercial cases and most probate cases as well as equity cases.
Courts of Common Pleas will hear most misdemeanors and preliminary hearings in felony cases. This court will also hear most general civil cases with less than $50,000 in dispute, exclusive of interest.
Family Courts will hear cases involving family or juvenile matters.
Justice of the Peace Courts will hear some types of civil, criminal and juvenile cases.
