Death Record Limitations
Genealogists, historians, and scholars all use informational death record copies to learn more about the deceased. Any member of the United States public can order this type of death record with no restrictions. Authorized, official death records can be ordered by only the legal representative for the deceased person on the record or immediate family members and will contain the state or county seal. Additionally, when requesting this kind of death record, you will need a sworn, notarized statement enclosed with your request.
When requesting a death record, you will need to enclose the standard fee of $12.
