San Mateo County, California Marriage Records
Marriage records will contain standard information about the couple and the union between the two: the location where the ceremony took place, the name of the bride (including maiden name), the witness’ signature (in California, one witness is required), the birth dates of the bride and groom, the presiding official’s signature (usually in a separate section), and the name of the husband.
San Mateo County had 3,430 marriage applications during the calendar year of 2009, as you can see at: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/data/statistics/Documents/2009MarriageData.pdf.
Marriage Record Limitations
Authorized marriage record copies are official copies that will contain the county or state seal, and can only be attained with a sworn, notarized statement. Informational marriage record copies are available to any member of the general public.
Include the following information with your request: the name of the husband, the maiden name of the wife (including her maiden name), date of the marriage, and the city where the marriage license was issued. All requests will need $14 included in the request packet.
