Union County, Arkansas Vital Records
Vital records are those of major life events like births, deaths, marriages and divorces. The records are typically sustained on the state level, but can be accessed through a number of various levels of government agencies.
The Division of Vital Records is required to maintain all vital records. The birth and death certificates are kept to define identity and to collect important medical information. The marriage and divorce coupons are taken from the bottom of the actual certificate to make copies. The coupons contain limited information but are still considered legal documents.
Birth certificates are closed records for 100 years, and death certificates are closed records for 50 years in Arkansas. Marriage and divorce records are never available for public access. During the years of restriction, only specific relatives or one who can prove a right to the records may request copies.
A birth certificate costs $12 and $10 for additional copies ordered at the same time. The death certificates are $10 and $8, respectively. Each copy of a marriage or divorce coupon costs $10. The first copy fee is considered the search fee and is non-refundable.
